The Only Margarita Recipe You’ll Ever Need

This delicious margarita recipe is sure to be a hit at your next gathering!

Oh friend….this is the ONLY Margarita recipe you will ever need to make a perfect classic margarita! You need this recipe in your cocktail repertoire. Margaritas are the classic cocktail…light, refreshing and great with a good guacamole! It’s like a bartender’s best friend.

Knowing how to create and serve a really good margarita will set you apart from others and your guests will come to appreciate your high regard for a quality margarita. So, without further ado…let’s get into it…

Ingredients are KEY

First of all, quality ingredients are key for a really good margarita! You need good tequila, a nice simple syrup, Cointreau and Triple Sec. That is it.

HEAR ME OUT HERE….There is no reason we need to be using sour mix in our margarita recipes. No reason. At all. Ugh…it makes my throat hurt just thinking about it. Do not waste your money on sour mix. I am here to help you avoid this faux pas in the world of margarita making!

I also appreciate a good salt to rim the glass….while the marketed margarita salt is yummy in it’s own right, I do prefer a nice pink himalayan sea salt to rim my glass…not to fine and not too thick…This company makes a perfect Himalayan sea salt that I use for almost everything and so I highly recommend it.

The Tools are Important too

The tools that we use to make our margarita are almost as important as the ingredients. Personally I enjoy drinking my margarita out of a nice rocks glass as opposed to a tall stemmed margarita glass….it just feels better and I appreciate the ease of using the cocktail glass versus a potential spill hazard of a stemmed margarita cheeseball glass…but again…you do you…if you love margarita glasses and taco and nacho cheese labeled plates then I say hug that guac with open arms!

Before we can put our lips to glass we must first mix our cocktail accordingly. I have used a variety of cocktail shakers over the years and while I understand that one could mix up a margarita without a shaker, I don’t know why one would avoid the shaker….it lends a certain froofily aire to the drink and gives it a nice freshly shaken sentiment. Soooo….I will save you from those shakers of old that freeze your hand and get stuck when you try to pry them open causing a spill and splatter of embarrassment. This shaker right here is the creme de la creme of shakers and once you purchase it you will find reasons to use it as opposed to the regular avoidance of old leaky shakers.

The ONLY Margarita Recipe You'll Ever Need

margarita in a salt rimmed glass

This is a super delicious classic margarita! It's light and fresh and oh so yummy! Whether you serve it alone or with your favorite cuisine - chips & salsa or guac - it is sure to please margarita lovers everywhere!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 Limes
  • 2 tbsps Himalayan Sea Salt
  • 4 ounces Tequila - Preferably Blanco - Casadores is my favorite
  • Triple Sec
  • Cointreau or Grand Marnier
  • Simple Syrup
  • 1 Can of Light Beer

Instructions

  1. First take a lime wedge and run it around the rim of your cocktail glass.
  2. Next dip that wet rim in your himalayan sea salt lightly so you have a nice salted rim.
  3. Now add ice to your glass - fill to 3/4 of the way full
  4. Now, take your cocktail shaker (I prefer this one from Elevated Craft). Fill it 3/4 of the way full with ice
  5. To the shaker, add the following ingredients - tequila, triple sec, Cointreau, simple syrup
  6. Now, put the lid on the shaker and shake that baby up
  7. After it is shaken, remove the lid and pour into your cocktail glass, leaving about 3/4 of an inch of room at the top
  8. Add a splash of beer to the top of the margarita
  9. Cheers your friends and enjoy!

Notes

You can definitely serve this in whatever glass you prefer, however I find it's better to drink a margarita over ice in a nice grown up rocks glass versus a tall stemmed margarita glass...these are some that I love here.

I am also adamant about a proper cocktail shaker. If you can, the best shaker on the market comes to us from Elevated Craft - here. It doesn't get stuck and it doesn't make your hand freeze or get slippery from condensation. It's so great!

It's easy to make your own simple syrup - check out my recipe here.
